  • Banks provided a deposit and exchange facility for ₹2000 banknotes until October 7, 2023.
  • RBI’s 19 Issue Offices have continued exchanging these banknotes since May 19, 2023, while accepting deposits from October 9, 2023.
  • Citizens can also send ₹2000 banknotes to RBI Issue Offices through India Post for deposit.
  • The circulation of ₹2000 banknotes has reduced significantly, declining from ₹3.56 lakh crore (as of May 19, 2023) to ₹6,577 crore (as of January 31, 2025), indicating a 98.15% return.
  • Despite being withdrawn from circulation, the ₹2000 banknotes remain legal tender.
