NATO to Establish New Northern Land Command in Finland
- NATO is planning to set up a new land command in Eastern Finland, close to the Russian border, in 2025.
- The new command will lead land force operations in northern Europe in case of military conflict. Finland, which joined NATO in 2023 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, will host this center at the Army Headquarters in Mikkeli.
- The Multi Corps Land Component Command will operate under NATO’s U.S.-based Norfolk Joint Force Command and Finland’s own land force command.

India’s Forex Reserves Reach Record High of $692.3 Billion
- India’s foreign exchange reserves have hit an all-time high of $692.3 billion as of September 20, 2024, according to data from the Reserve Bank of India released on September 27.
- The reserves grew by $2.84 billion in just one week, contributing to a total increase of $19.3 billion over the last five weeks.

OECD Revises India’s Growth Forecast for FY25 Upwards to 6.7%
- The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has revised its forecast for India’s growth in the fiscal year 2025 from 6.6% to 6.7%, as stated in its Interim Economic Outlook report on September 25.
- Inflation, however, is projected to rise slightly to 4.5% from the previous estimate of 4.3%.
- Looking ahead to FY26, India’s economy is expected to grow even faster at 6.8%, maintaining its status as the fastest-growing economy globally, surpassing China, the U.S., and other G20 nations.
GST Council Forms Group of Ministers on Compensation Cess
- The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has established a 10-member Group of Ministers (GoM), led by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, to examine the future taxation of luxury and demerit goods, as the current compensation cess will expire in March 2026.
- The GoM includes representatives from states like Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, with a final report expected by December 31.
