Cabinet Approves Increase in MSP for 14 Kharif Crops for 2025–26

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a rise in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the 2025–26 marketing season.

  • The objective of the revision is to ensure that farmers receive fair and profitable prices for their produce.

  • This decision follows the Union Budget 2018–19 policy, which stipulated that MSP should be set at 1.5 times the weighted average cost of production at the national level.

IIT Kharagpur and IME Singapore Partner to Propel Semiconductor Innovation

  • A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Indian Institute of Technology  Kharagpur and Singapore’s Institute of Microelectronics , part of A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research).

  • The partnership was formalized at the SEMICON Southeast Asia 2025 event, a major gathering of semiconductor industry leaders.

  • This agreement marks a significant milestone in fostering global cooperation for advancing semiconductor technologies.

Green Signal for Two Multitracking Railway Projects in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh

  • The CCEA, under the chairmanship of PM Modi, has sanctioned two important multitracking rail projects under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

  • These projects aim to enhance line capacity, thereby improving the speed of both passenger and freight trains.

  • The initiatives will also contribute to reducing logistics costs, cutting back on oil imports, and decreasing CO₂ emissions.

  • Covering four districts across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, these railway projects will expand Indian Railways’ network by approximately 176 kilometers.

Miniratna Status Conferred on MIL, AVNL & IOL

  • Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has granted “Miniratna” Category-I status to three Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs): Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), and India Optel Limited (IOL).

  • The recognition acknowledges the entities’ rapid transformation into profit-generating corporations within a span of three years.

  • This move aligns with the government’s efforts to strengthen India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

Indian Navy Launches Sixth 25T BP Tug ‘Sabal’

  • The Indian Navy launched its sixth 25-ton Bollard Pull (BP) tug, named Sabal, at M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) in Kolkata.

  • Commodore S Sreekumar, WPS, Kolkata, officiated the launch ceremony as Chief Guest.

  • The tug is part of a 2021 contract with TRSL for building six such tugs, all designed indigenously in accordance with Naval Rules and Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).

  • Four tugs have already been delivered and are operational within the Navy.

Axis Max Life MD & CEO Prashant Tripathy to Retire Early

  • Prashant Tripathy, the current MD & CEO of Axis Max Life Insurance, has announced his decision to take early retirement, effective by the end of Q2 FY 2025–26 (September 2025).

  • The company’s Board of Directors will initiate the process of finding his successor, subject to necessary regulatory approvals.

  • Tripathy assumed the MD & CEO role in January 2019 after Rajesh Sud’s resignation, and his current term was renewed in September 2023 for a five-year period ending in December 2028.

Intelsat Gets Indian Government Nod for Satellite Broadcast Services

  • The US-based satellite communications provider, Intelsat, has received clearance from India’s IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre) to deliver satellite services directly to domestic broadcasters.

  • Intelsat becomes one of the first foreign players to gain such access in India.

  • Following the approval, Intelsat has secured contracts with three of India’s leading media houses.

  • The company is authorized to operate four geostationary satellites—IS-17, IS-20, IS-36, and IS-39—which will provide extensive C-band coverage over India.
