India to Permit 49% Foreign Investment in Nuclear Energy Sector
India is poised to introduce a significant policy change by allowing up to 49% foreign direct investment (FDI) in its nuclear energy sector.
This initiative aims to accelerate clean energy development, lessen reliance on coal, and meet the nation’s carbon reduction commitments.
The government plans to revise the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act (2010) and the Atomic Energy Act (1960) during the Monsoon Session of 2025.
These amendments will open doors for both foreign and private companies to invest in, construct, and operate nuclear power plants.
The objective is to scale up India’s nuclear power capacity from the current 8 GW to 100 GW by the year 2047.
Leading international firms like Westinghouse, GE-Hitachi, EDF, and Rosatom have shown interest, alongside major Indian corporations such as Reliance, Tata, Adani, and Vedanta.
Potential investments are estimated at approximately $26 billion.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) 2025 to Resume
The revered Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, significant to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers, will recommence in 2025 after a hiatus of five years caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and border disputes.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on April 26, 2025, that the pilgrimage will be held between June and August 2025.
A total of 750 pilgrims will be permitted via two routes: Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and Nathu La Pass in Sikkim.
Registration will be handled through a computerized system on kmy.gov.in to ensure a transparent, fair, and gender-balanced selection process.

India Sets Record in Inland Waterways Cargo Movement for FY 2024–25
India achieved a historic milestone by transporting 145.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo via Inland Waterways during FY 2024–25.
This marks a significant rise from 18.1 MMT in FY 2013–14, reflecting a robust CAGR of 20.86%.
The surge is attributed to the expansion of National Waterways from 5 to 111, along with upgraded infrastructure, including Multi-Modal Terminals (MMTs) and Inter-Modal Terminals (IMTs).
Digital innovations like LADIS, RIS, PANI, and MIRS have further streamlined operations.

The Jalvahak Scheme, offering ₹95.42 crore with a 35% subsidy.

Anant Ambani has been appointed as the Executive Director (Whole-time) of Reliance Industries Ltd for a tenure of five years starting May 1, 2025.

Hubballi Airport Receives Top Recognition for Sustainability
Hubballi Airport in Karnataka has been awarded the Platinum Recognition under the ACI Green Airports Recognition 2025.
This is the highest accolade for sustainable energy practices among airports handling fewer than six million passengers annually.
Managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport was recognized for its innovative 8 MW solar power facility commissioned in December 2022.
The solar plant supplies clean energy to Hubballi, Belagavi, and Mysuru airports, leading to a reduction of approximately 215,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

India–France Rafale-Marine Jet Deal Nears Conclusion
India and France are set to finalize a government-to-government (G-to-G) agreement worth ₹63,000 crore on April 28, 2025.
The deal involves the procurement of 26 Rafale-Marine (Rafale-M) fighter jets, comprising 22 single-seater units and 4 twin-seater trainers.
These jets will be deployed on India’s aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, to bolster naval aviation capabilities.
The Rafale-M jets will serve as an interim solution until India’s indigenous Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF) becomes operational.
Deliveries will commence within 3.5 years, with completion expected in 6.5 years, further strengthening the defence partnership between India and France.

The Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), a unit of DRDO, has successfully completed a landmark 1,000+ second ground test of an Active Cooled Scramjet Subscale Combustor.
