Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum in New Delhi

  • The upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum will be located in the iconic North and South Blocks of Delhi as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Plan.

  • This initiative is designed to highlight and present India’s vast cultural and civilizational history through state-of-the-art museum facilities.

  • A technical collaboration has been signed with France Museums Development on December 19, 2024, to support the project.

  • A detailed feasibility report will determine the budget and timeline for converting these historic buildings into world-class museum spaces.

Darjeeling Zoo First in India to Begin Cryogenic DNA Preservation of Wildlife

  • Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling, West Bengal, has become the first Indian zoo to start cryogenic preservation of DNA samples of over 60 wildlife species.

  • This includes genetic materials from rare species like red pandas and snow leopards, mainly collected from animals that died due to natural causes or road accidents.

  • Situated at an altitude of 7050 feet and spanning 8 acres, it is the highest-altitude zoo in India.

India Imposes Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese Products

  • The Indian government has levied anti-dumping duties on five Chinese imports such as aluminium foil and vacuum flasks.

  • This action is meant to protect local industries from the adverse effects of cheap imports.

  • The duties are in accordance with the suggestions made by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) to maintain fair market competition.

Government Upgrades E-Auction Platforms: BAANKNET & e-BKray

  • The Department of Financial Services (DFS) has encouraged Public Sector Banks (PSBs) to enhance the efficiency of e-auctions for selling Non-Performing Assets (NPAs).

  • A new and improved portal named BAANKNET has been introduced for this purpose.

  • The older e-BKray platform will also continue to be part of the revamped strategy to boost the sale value of NPAs.

Equitas Small Finance Bank Extends Partnership with IPL Teams

  • Equitas Small Finance Bank has renewed its sponsorship with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) as their Official Banking Partner.

  • The collaboration now enters its sixth year with CSK and third year with GT.

  • As part of the “Bank Behind Champions” campaign, the bank’s logo will appear on the lead helmet of CSK and the back helmet of GT, promoting financial empowerment and increasing brand visibility.

  • Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has made history by becoming Namibia’s first female president.

  • She is also only the second woman in Africa to be directly elected as head of state, following Liberia’s Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

  • Aged 72, she secured 58% votes in the November 2023 elections.

  • She has been a senior figure in SWAPO (South West Africa People’s Organisation), Namibia’s ruling party since its independence in 1990.
