Jan Dhan Yojana Deposits Soar to ₹2.63 Lakh Crore
As of April 9, 2025, total deposits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) crossed ₹2.63 lakh crore.
This growth indicates a strong adoption of the scheme beyond just benefit transfers.
The scheme was initiated on August 28, 2014.
Its primary objective was to promote financial inclusion by offering zero-balance bank accounts to unbanked families.
Telangana Introduces the Bhu Bharati Act, 2025 for Land Governance
The Telangana government enacted the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights) Act, 2025 to streamline land-related administration.
The law addresses public grievances that emerged from the previous Dharani portal system.
It aims to foster transparency, efficiency, decentralization, and citizen involvement in land record management.
Bihar CM Launches ‘Mahila Samvad’ for Women Empowerment

SIDBI to Inject $800 Million into Climate Fund for Small Enterprises
The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is preparing to finalize an agreement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) by mid-May 2025.
This partnership is aimed at supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in shifting to climate-resilient and low-emission technologies.
SIDBI is expected to contribute $800 million toward forming a $1 billion climate-focused fund, a significant portion of which will be externally sourced.
As highlighted in the Economic Survey 2024-25, MSMEs account for around 30% of India’s GDP but are also substantial emitters of greenhouse gases and are particularly vulnerable to climate impacts.
According to the International Energy Agency, India’s energy demand is projected to surge by 50% by 2030.
The Green Climate Fund approved $215.6 million in July 2024 for the Financing Mitigation and Adaptation Projects (FMAP) for MSMEs.
This includes $200 million as concessional loans and $15.6 million in grants.
The initiative is estimated to mitigate 35.3 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

Senior IAS officer Bhuvnesh Kumar has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
He is a 1995 batch officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
He currently holds the post of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).

Adani Ports Secures Australian Terminal in $2.4 Billion Deal
Adani Ports and SEZ has acquired the coal export terminal at the Port of Abbot Point, Australia.
The $2.4 billion deal was executed in a non-cash format.
The acquisition was made by purchasing Abbot Point Port Holdings (APPH), Singapore, from Carmichael Rail and Port Singapore Holdings (CRPSHPL).
APPH controls and manages the North Queensland Export Terminal, with a capacity of 50 million tonnes per annum.
Location: 25 km north of Bowen, North Queensland, East Coast of Australia.
