10 Years of Swachh Bharat Mission: A Decade of Cleanliness
- As the Swachh Bharat Mission marks its 10th anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024 celebrations on Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd October, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
- He will inaugurate and initiate several cleanliness and sanitation-related projects valued at over ₹9,600 crore.
- This includes ₹6,800 crore allocated for urban water and sewage improvements under AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0, ₹1,550 crore for water quality and waste management in the Ganga basin under the National Mission for Clean Ganga, and ₹1,332 crore for 15 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants under the GOBARdhan Scheme.

- This move, aimed at improving India’s investment ecosystem, was made during SEBI’s recent board meeting, the first one held since allegations were raised against its chairperson, Madhabi Puri Buch.

India’s Current Account Deficit Widens to $9.7 Billion
- During the April-June 2024 quarter, India’s current account deficit (CAD) increased to $9.7 billion, equivalent to 1.1% of the GDP.
- This is up from the $8.9 billion CAD recorded in Q1 FY2024 (1% of GDP).
- The rise is mainly attributed to a larger merchandise trade deficit, which expanded to $65.1 billion compared to $56.7 billion the previous year.
- In contrast, the January-March quarter saw a surplus of $4.6 billion (0.5% of GDP).
