State Bank of India (SBI) Plans to Raise ₹7,500 Crore Through Second Tranche of Tier-II Bonds
- SBI is set to raise up to ₹7,500 crore via the second issuance of Tier-II bonds.
- The bonds will mature over 15 years.
- The issuance is structured with a base size of ₹4,000 crore and an additional greenshoe option worth ₹3,500 crore.
- In August 2024, SBI had successfully raised ₹7,500 crore through its first issuance of Basel III-compliant Tier-II bonds, which carried a coupon rate of 7.42%.
Outward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Grows by $1 Billion in August 2024: RBI
- Data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) shows that India’s outward FDI commitments surged by $1 billion in August 2024, reaching $3.21 billion, compared to $2.29 billion in August 2023.
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) Boosts Stake in IRCTC to 9.3%
- LIC has increased its stake in Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to about 9.3%.
- This represents a 2.02% increase in its holdings between December 16, 2022, and September 11, 2024, achieved through open market purchases.

PM Modi to Distribute Financial Aid for 20 Million Rural Homes Under PMAY-Grameen
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing to release the first tranche of financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Grameen (PMAY-G).
- The scheme aims to construct 20 million homes in rural areas within the next five years, in addition to the 26 million homes built over the past decade.

WHO Approves First Mpox Vaccine to Strengthen Response in Africa
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has granted its first approval for a vaccine against mpox, marking an important step in the fight against the disease, especially in Africa.
- The vaccine, developed by Bavarian Nordic A/S, has been pre-qualified, allowing global agencies like GAVI and UNICEF to procure it.
- However, limited supply remains a challenge due to the vaccine being produced by a single manufacturer.

Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands to be Renamed as “Sri Vijaya Puram”
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the renaming of Port Blair, the capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, to “Sri Vijaya Puram.”
- The renaming is part of efforts to remove colonial associations tied to the original name, which honored British naval surveyor Archibald Blair.

Nehal Vora Reappointed as MD and CEO of CDSL for Another Five Years
- Nehal Vora has been reappointed as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Central Depository Services India (CDSL) for a second term spanning five years, from September 18, 2024, to September 17, 2029.
- Vora brings over 25 years of experience in Indian capital markets, having previously held prominent roles at organizations such as BSE, DSP Merrill Lynch, and SEBI.

India Conducts Successful Back-to-Back Test Firings of Surface-to-Air Missiles
- India successfully carried out test launches of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) on two consecutive days, September 12 and 13, 2024, at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.
- The tests were conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with the Indian Navy, showcasing advancements in India’s defense capabilities.
European-Japanese Spacecraft Captures Detailed Images of Mercury at Sunrise
- BepiColombo, a joint mission by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), made its closest approach to Mercury, capturing highly detailed black-and-white images of the planet’s surface during sunrise.

India and US Sign MoU to Enhance Cooperation in Defence Innovation at INDUS-X Summit

- The MoU aims to bolster defence innovation cooperation, allowing both militaries to access cutting-edge technologies.
China and Maldives Sign Trade Agreement Amid Maldives’ Debt Issues
- The People’s Bank of China (PBoC) signed an MoU with the Maldivian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to promote trade and investment.
