  • Walmart-Owned Indus Appstore Teams Up with Xiaomi India
    • Indus Appstore, under Walmart-backed PhonePe, has entered into a multi-year agreement with Xiaomi India to pre-install its app marketplace on all Xiaomi devices sold in India.
    • As part of this partnership, Xiaomi will replace its existing GetApps store with Indus Appstore on existing devices.
    • Xiaomi India will install Indus Appstore on all new devices as well.
    • This collaboration is designed to compete with Google Play Store by providing an alternative platform for app downloads in India.

NATIONAL NEWS

  • Tamil Nadu Replaces ₹ with ‘ரூ’ in State Budget Logo
    • The Tamil Nadu government changed the Indian Rupee symbol (₹) to the Tamil letter ‘ரூ’ in the state budget logo for FY 2025-26.
    • Chief Minister M K Stalin leads this move, which is considered a cultural assertion and aligns with the state’s stance against Hindi imposition and the National Education Policy (NEP).
    • By featuring ‘ரூ’ instead of the standard Rupee symbol, the Tamil Nadu budget logo underscores the promotion of Tamil identity and linguistic pride.

Cultural Assertion
• Reflects Tamil Nadu’s ongoing opposition to the perceived imposition of Hindi.
• Aligns with the ruling DMK government’s view that the NEP is “saffronized.”

Historical Context
• The original Rupee symbol (₹) was designed by Udaya Kumar, a Tamilian and son of a former DMK MLA.


India Launches First-Ever Auction of Exploration Licences
  • The Ministry of Mines, together with the Government of Goa, held an inaugural event to commence India’s first auction of Exploration Licences (ELs).
  • Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, and Goa’s Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, attended the event.
  • This reform seeks to unlock critical, deep-seated mineral resources, boost private sector engagement, and lower import dependence.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) – Key Highlights & Achievements
  • The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) achieved a landmark 10 lakh rooftop solar installations as of 10th March 2025.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme on 13th February 2024, with an aim to solarize 1 crore households by 2026-27, driving down electricity costs and advocating clean energy.
  • Milestones so far:
    • 10 lakh rooftop solar setups successfully installed.
    • 3 lakh applications submitted.
    • ₹4,770 crore disbursed to 6.13 lakh beneficiaries.
    • 3 GW of solar capacity installed, aiming for 30 GW by 2027.
    • 10 lakh loan applications received; 1.58 lakh approved, 1.28 lakh disbursed.

  • India-Chile 1st Joint Working Group Meeting on Agriculture

  •  Held virtually, co-chaired by Ajeet Kumar Sahu (Joint Secretary (IC), Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, India) and Gabriel Layseca (Director, Department of International Affairs, ODEPA, Chile).

  • India at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) 69th Session
  • India, led by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smt. Annpurna Devi, took part in the 69th Session of the UNCSW at the UN Headquarters in New York (March 10-21, 2025).
    • Reiterated India’s commitment to gender equality, inclusive growth, and global cooperation for women’s empowerment.
    • Delivered India’s National Statement at the Ministerial Forum.
    • Encouraged a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to bolster women’s empowerment.

  • 2024 ACM A.M. Turing Award: Andrew G. Barto & Richard S. Sutton
  •  The 2024 ACM A.M. Turing Award, known as the “Nobel Prize in Computing,” has been granted to Andrew G. Barto (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) and Richard S. Sutton (University of Alberta).
    • They were honored for their pioneering work in Reinforcement Learning, which has greatly influenced the core foundations of AI and machine learning.

  • India-Bangladesh Naval Exercise ‘Bongosagar 2025’
    • The India-Bangladesh Naval Exercise ‘Bongosagar 2025,’ along with a Coordinated Patrol, took place in the Bay of Bengal.
    • Its primary objective was to improve interoperability between the two nations’ navies and bolster their collective ability to handle maritime security challenges.
