Government Expands Gas-Based Power Generation for Greater Efficiency
  • Gas-based power plants in India are currently underperforming due to low Plant Load Factor, leading to reduced efficiency and electricity output.
  • To address this, the Government of India has added Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to the Open General License category.
    • This enables power plants to import LNG on commercially agreed terms.
  • Between April 2024 and January 2025, Indian power plants imported 9.58 MMSCMD of gas to meet rising electricity demands.
