India’s Sovereign Credit Rating Upgraded To ‘BBB’ With ‘Stable’ Outlook By Morningstar DBRS
Global credit rating agency Morningstar DBRS has upgraded India’s Long-Term Foreign and Local Currency – Issuer Ratings from BBB (low) to BBB, accompanied by a stable trend.
Additionally, the Short-Term Foreign and Local Currency Issuer Ratings have been elevated from R-2 (middle) to R-2 (high), maintaining a stable outlook.
This upgrade is attributed to several key factors:
Significant structural reforms, particularly in infrastructure development, digital transformation, and fiscal discipline leading to lower debt and deficit levels.
A phase of robust economic growth, with India averaging 8.2% GDP growth during FY22 to FY25.
Sustained macroeconomic stability, reflected by:
Controlled and predictable inflation.
A range-bound exchange rate.
A solid external balance sheet.
SEBI Imposes Cooling-Off Period For Directors Of Market Infrastructure Institutions
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced amendments to both the SECC Regulations, 2018, and the Depositories and Participants Regulations, 2018.
These changes aim to enhance governance at Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs) such as stock exchanges, clearing corporations, and depositories.
A new rule mandates a cooling-off period for non-independent directors before transitioning to the board of a competing MII.
Public Interest Directors (PIDs) may be reappointed to another rival MII for a three-year term, but only after completing their existing term and securing SEBI’s approval.
This cooling-off policy applies specifically when PIDs shift to a competing institution.
The regulation aims to strengthen transparency, foster better governance, and maintain market integrity.
The decision follows a March SEBI board review focused on the appointment processes at major MIIs.
