India Launches World’s First Genome-Edited Rice Varieties
India has become the pioneer in introducing officially recognized genome-edited rice varieties globally.
Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan introduced two advanced rice variants: DRR Rice 100 (Kamla) and Pusa DST Rice 1.
These were developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) using the advanced CRISPR-Cas gene-editing technology.
This development marks a significant step forward in biotechnology and promotes climate-resilient agriculture.
CBI’s Operation Hawk 2025 Busts International Child Exploitation Rings
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with global law enforcement agencies, conducted Operation Hawk 2025 to dismantle online child sexual exploitation networks.
The operation particularly targeted networks involved in cross-border exploitation, with minors in the United States being primary victims.

Krishnamurthy V Subramanian’s IMF Tenure Ended Six Months Early
The Indian government unexpectedly curtailed the term of Krishnamurthy V Subramanian as Executive Director at the IMF by six months.
The order, dated April 30, was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training and approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Subramanian began his tenure in November 2022 and was initially appointed for a three-year term.
Before this role, he served as India’s 17th Chief Economic Adviser from 2018 to October 2021.
At the IMF, he represented India along with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.
Lawrence Wong’s People’s Action Party Wins Singapore Elections
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong led the People’s Action Party (PAP) to a landslide victory in Singapore’s 2025 general election.

DRDO Successfully Tests High-Altitude Stratospheric Airship Platform
DRDO conducted its first successful flight trials of a high-altitude stratospheric airship on May 3, 2025.
The test was carried out at the Sheopur trial facility in Madhya Pradesh.
The airship was developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Agra.
It carried an instrumentation payload and ascended to approximately 17 kilometers in altitude.
Pakistan Test-Fires Abdali Missile During Ex INDUS
Pakistan successfully launched the Abdali surface-to-surface missile as part of Exercise INDUS.
Missile Details:
Type: Short-range, road-mobile ballistic missile
Developer: SUPARCO
Fuel Type: Solid fuel
Range: 450 km, doubling the previously reported 180–200 km range
The missile is dual-capable, meaning it can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads.
It has been operational with Pakistan’s Army Strategic Forces Command since 2005.
