Stand-Up India Scheme Celebrates 7 Years, Crosses Rs 61,000 Crore in Loans
Launched on April 5, 2016, under the Ministry of Finance’s “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” the Stand-Up India scheme continues to empower marginalized entrepreneurs.
The total loan amount sanctioned under the scheme rose from Rs. 16,085.07 crore (as of March 31, 2019) to Rs. 61,020.41 crore (as of March 17, 2025).
The scheme primarily supports Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and women entrepreneurs by facilitating bank loans for launching new ventures.
Over time, it has evolved into a movement for fostering entrepreneurship, employment, and inclusive economic development.
West Bengal Tops in Thermal Power Generation Efficiency
West Bengal emerged as the top-performing state in thermal power generation based on Plant Load Factor (PLF), as per a recent Central Electricity Authority (CEA) survey.
The survey evaluated 201 thermal power plants across India.
Santaldih Thermal Power Plant (WBPDCL) achieved the top national rank with a PLF of 94.38%.
Bakreshwar Thermal Power Plant followed in second place with a PLF of 93.3%.
Two additional plants from West Bengal also ranked in the Top 10:
Sagardighi Power Plant: 4th with PLF of 90.86%.
Bandel Thermal Power Station: 9th with PLF of 89.62%.
West Bengal secured 4 out of the Top 10 spots, highlighting its excellence in operational efficiency.
PM Modi Inaugurates New Pamban Bridge — India’s First Vertical-Lift Sea Bridge
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the New Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu during his visit on Ram Navami.
This new structure replaces the century-old Pamban Bridge and connects Rameswaram Island to the mainland at Mandapam.
The project is a hallmark of modern infrastructure and engineering in India.
PM Modi’s inauguration followed his return from Sri Lanka, where he had an aerial view of Ram Setu — a symbolic fusion of India’s spiritual and structural heritage.

IFF serves as a coordinating body for different stakeholders in the fintech ecosystem.

Paytm Collaborates with GHMC for Property Tax Digitization

Bangladesh Takes Over as BIMSTEC Chair
Bangladesh has officially assumed the Chairmanship of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation), succeeding Thailand.
The handover was accepted by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus on behalf of Bangladesh.
BIMSTEC member nations include:
Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
The organization aims to foster cooperation in trade, technology, and economic sectors among member countries.
6th BIMSTEC Summit Held in Bangkok, Thailand
The 6th BIMSTEC Summit took place in Bangkok, hosted by Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The theme for the summit was “Prosperous, Resilient and Open BIMSTEC.”
A moment of silence was held in honor of those affected by the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand.
Leaders from all seven member nations participated.
Two major outcome documents were adopted:
The Bangkok Declaration.
BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision.
These documents aim to create a strategic roadmap for economic cooperation and sustainable development.
The BIMSTEC Chair rotates every two years in alphabetical order. After Thailand and now Bangladesh, Bhutan is expected to assume the next chair.
