ITBP Successfully Scales Mt. Makalu in Twin Peak Expedition

  • A team of 12 personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has achieved a historic feat by summiting Mt. Makalu.

  • Standing at 8,485 metres, Mt. Makalu is the fifth-highest peak in the world.

  • This expedition forms part of ITBP’s first-ever attempt to conquer both Mt. Makalu and Mt. Annapurna, showcasing the force’s continued excellence in high-altitude mountaineering.

  • The mission also underscores the ITBP’s commitment to environmental preservation in mountainous regions.

India’s Major Milestone in ITER Nuclear Fusion Project

  • India has played a pivotal role in advancing the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) project — the world’s most significant nuclear fusion experiment.

  • The country’s contributions include supplying the enormous 30-metre cryostat chamber, cryolines, internal shielding, and advanced heating and cooling systems required for the Tokamak’s supercooled, superconducting setup.

  • A crucial development milestone has been achieved with the completion of the sixth and final module of the Central Solenoid, the Tokamak’s core magnet.

  • This magnet is powerful enough to generate the magnetic force necessary to lift an aircraft carrier and is crucial for confining plasma at an extreme temperature of 150 million degrees Celsius.

Angola Strengthens Ties with India; Becomes ISA’s 123rd Member

  • Angolan President João Lourenço completed a significant state visit to India in May 2025, resulting in strengthened bilateral cooperation.

  • During the visit, key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed in areas such as Ayurveda, agriculture, and cultural exchange.

  • India approved a USD 200 million Line of Credit (LOC) to facilitate Angola’s defence procurement.

  • Angola also became the 123rd member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), marking a notable step in collaborative efforts toward global climate action.

Goldsikka Launches India’s First AI-Powered Gold-Melting ATM

  • Hyderabad-based startup Goldsikka has launched an innovative Gold-Melting ATM designed to modernize gold-related transactions in India.

  • This ATM integrates advanced AI technology and enables users to engage in activities like buying, selling, leasing, exchanging, digitising, and monetising gold in an automated manner.

  • It also features Augmented Reality (AR) support, allowing customers to virtually try on jewellery before making a purchase.

  • This marks a significant leap in customer experience and gold technology in India.

  • Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has secured a second consecutive term by leading the Labor Party to a sweeping electoral victory.

IIM Bangalore Ranked as Top Indian Business School in QS Executive MBA Rankings 2025

  • The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore has earned recognition as the premier business school in India, according to the QS Executive MBA Rankings for 2025.

  • On a global scale, the institute’s position declined, moving down to rank 50 from 41 in the previous year.

  • The rankings reviewed 233 executive MBA programs worldwide, and seven Indian institutions, including both IIMs and private entities like the Indian School of Business (ISB), made it to the list.

S&P Global Ratings Lowers India’s GDP Projection for FY 2025-26

  • S&P Global Ratings has revised its economic forecast for India, reducing the projected GDP growth for FY 2025-26 from 6.5% to 6.3%.

  • The downgrade is attributed to the uncertainty surrounding the United States’ tariff policies and broader downside risks to global trade.

  • Despite this adjustment, India’s GDP is still expected to grow by 6.5% in FY 2026-27.

  • S&P emphasized persistent risks to growth, especially if global tariff disruptions adversely affect the real economy, highlighting instability in the long-term structure of the global economy.
