PM Modi Inaugurates ₹8,800 Crore Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala
On the auspicious occasion of Adi Shankaracharya’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Developed at a substantial investment of ₹8,800 crore, this pioneering port marks India’s first deepwater transshipment hub and is set to play a transformative role in maritime logistics.
The port has been developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with Adani Ports as a major stakeholder. Designed to handle ultra-large vessels exceeding 20,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), the Vizhinjam Port is expected to significantly boost India’s international trade and reduce dependence on foreign ports for transshipment.
India and Denmark Renew Commitment to Clean Energy Transition
India and Denmark have reaffirmed their strategic partnership in the energy domain by signing a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on green energy transformation. The agreement was signed by Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, and H.E. Mr. Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Ambassador of Denmark to India.
This enhanced collaboration is aimed at accelerating the shift to clean energy and supports India’s overarching goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2070. The MoU covers multiple sectors including wind energy, energy efficiency, and green hydrogen, highlighting mutual priorities in sustainable development.
NITI Aayog and IFC Release Comprehensive Report to Empower MSMEs
In a joint initiative, NITI Aayog and the Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) have released a detailed report titled “Enhancing Competitiveness of MSMEs in India.” The document provides a critical assessment of the current challenges faced by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.
Key recommendations from the report include the need for systemic reforms such as expanding access to credit, skill development programs, embracing technological innovations, and better integration with domestic and global markets. The report serves as a strategic roadmap to empower MSMEs and enhance their competitiveness in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

Australia Launches World’s Largest Electric Ferry Ship – Hull 096
In a groundbreaking achievement, Australia has unveiled the world’s largest fully electric-powered ship – a 130-meter-long aluminium catamaran named Hull 096. Developed by renowned Australian shipbuilder Incat, the vessel is intended for operations between Buenos Aires and Uruguay by ferry operator Buquebus.
Hull 096 boasts a capacity to transport 2,100 passengers and up to 225 vehicles. It is powered by over 250 tonnes of lithium-ion batteries and features an advanced Energy Storage System (ESS) developed by Wartsila, offering a massive 40 megawatt-hours of storage capacity. The ship is equipped with eight electric waterjets, positioning it as a model for future sustainable marine transportation.

Sanjay Joshi Recommended as CMD of Oriental Insurance Company Limited
The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has proposed the appointment of Sanjay Joshi as the new Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL). The position has remained vacant following the retirement of R. R. Singh at the end of February 2025.
Since March 1, 2025, Amit Misra, the current Executive Director, has been serving as the acting CMD for a temporary period of three months. Sanjay Joshi, presently a General Manager at United India Insurance Company, is a seasoned professional from the 1989 batch of direct recruits with more than 30 years of extensive experience in the general insurance industry.
Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh Appointed as DG and CEO of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs
Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), a prominent think tank under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
A respected officer from the Indian Post & Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service (IP&TAFS), Shri Singh brings valuable experience to his new role. India’s top badminton duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, have been honored with the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. In a milestone move for technological innovation, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and IBM have partnered to enhance India’s quantum computing capabilities. As part of the broader Quantum Valley Tech Park initiative in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, this collaboration aims to make India a global hub for quantum research and development.
The tech park will feature IBM’s advanced Quantum System Two, powered by the 156-qubit Heron quantum processor. Once operational, this will be the largest quantum computing system in India.
