India-China Commemorate 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations
On the occasion of 75 years of diplomatic ties, Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged cordial messages to mark the milestone.
President Xi used the analogy of a “cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant” to emphasize the need for collaboration in modernization.
The Chinese Embassy in India hosted a commemorative event, focusing on rebuilding mutual trust and enhancing cooperation in key areas like border security, defense, and people-to-people engagements.
Senior diplomats Vikram Misri and Xu Feihong participated, reiterating the commitment to respectful and strategic bilateral relations.
Bharti Airtel Strengthens Partnership with Nokia for 5G Services
Airtel is deepening its core network alliance with Nokia to deploy new Packet Core appliance-based solutions and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology.
This collaboration will merge 5G and 4G technologies into a unified server system, improving broadband at homes and business-critical applications.
Airtel will also implement Nokia’s automation platform for seamless, zero-touch service launches and lifecycle management, enhancing operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Free Bus Services Launched for Women in Jammu & Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has introduced free bus rides for women to encourage gender-inclusive transportation.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah flagged off the initiative, covering both smart city e-buses and JKRTC buses across the UT.
The scheme includes 200 e-buses for urban regions and 235 JKRTC buses in the Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
This move is intended to bolster safety, accessibility, and empowerment for working women and female commuters.

RBI Revises ATM Withdrawal Charges Effective May 1, 2025
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased ATM transaction charges from ₹21 to ₹23 for withdrawals exceeding the permitted free limit.
Customers are still allowed five free withdrawals from their own bank’s ATMs, three at other banks’ ATMs in metro cities, and five in non-metro locations.
These revised charges will also apply to cash recycler machines, but cash deposit transactions remain unaffected.
The adjustment aims to help banks cover increasing maintenance and operational costs for ATMs.

Sivasubramanian Ramann Appointed as Chairperson of PFRDA
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has named Sivasubramanian Ramann as the new Chairperson of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) for a five-year term.
He currently holds the position of Deputy CAG and Chief Technology Officer at the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
In his new role, Ramann will oversee regulatory functions related to pension schemes like the National Pension System (NPS) and the Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
The PFRDA functions under the Ministry of Finance to promote transparency, pension sector reforms, and financial security for retirees.
Sohini Rajola Appointed Executive Director – Growth at NPCI
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has appointed Sohini Rajola to the newly created role of Executive Director – Growth.
Rajola will be responsible for scaling up adoption of NPCI’s payment products, with a strong emphasis on business development and product innovation.

Google Launches AI-Powered FireSat Satellite to Combat Forest Fires
Google has introduced FireSat, an artificial intelligence-powered satellite, designed to improve early detection of forest fires.
The satellite was launched aboard a SpaceX rocket a few days ago.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai acknowledged SpaceX and Elon Musk for facilitating the launch.
FireSat is engineered to send wildfire alerts every 20 minutes, enhancing rapid response capabilities.
Developed in collaboration with Earth-Fire Alliance, Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation, and Muon Space, the project aims to address climate and environmental challenges.

Mumbai Records Lowest Fixed Broadband Speed Among Indian Cities: Ookla
Mumbai was ranked 123rd globally in fixed broadband speed, the lowest among Indian cities, as per Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index for February 2025.
In contrast, Delhi performed better and ranked 89th globally.
India’s overall global ranking slipped slightly from 94th in January 2025 to 95th in February.
The average broadband download speed in India also declined from 64.45 Mbps (April 2024) to 61.66 Mbps (Feb 2025).
