At the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm (BRS) Conventions COPs held in Geneva from April 30 to May 1, 2025, India reaffirmed its prominent role in environmental policy.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav led India’s delegation, highlighting the nation’s regulatory measures in chemical and waste governance.
India advocated for global access to financial resources, technological support, and collective action to curb plastic pollution.
The conference theme was: “Make visible the invisible: Sound management of chemicals and wastes.”
Amit Shah Dedicates Statue of Bodo Icon Bodofa Upendranath Brahma
Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a 9-foot statue of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma in the national capital.
A road and a traffic rotary were also named after Brahma to honor his legacy on the 35th anniversary of his death.
Brahma is remembered as a revered Bodo leader who championed peaceful activism for tribal identity and rights.
Madhya Pradesh Introduces India’s First AI-Powered Real-Time Forest Monitoring System
Madhya Pradesh has pioneered the launch of India’s first artificial intelligence-driven forest alert mechanism.
This system integrates satellite imagery, AI-based algorithms, and mobile data from field agents to identify issues like deforestation and land misuse.
The initiative is currently being piloted in five forest divisions: Shivpuri, Guna, Vidisha, Burhanpur, and Khandwa.

Deloitte Forecasts India’s GDP Growth for FY25 at 6.5–6.7% Driven by Domestic Factors
Deloitte has predicted that India’s GDP will grow between 6.5% and 6.7% in the fiscal year 2025.
This growth projection is underpinned by robust domestic demand and supportive tax-related incentives, despite the challenging international trade landscape.
For the fiscal year 2026, Deloitte anticipates a slightly moderated GDP growth in the range of 6.3% to 6.5%.
The economic outlook depends on how well India manages foreign trade partnerships while simultaneously boosting domestic consumption.

Sanjay Khanna Becomes CMD of BPCL Succeeding G. Krishnakumar
Sanjay Khanna has been assigned the additional responsibility of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL).
This follows the conclusion of G. Krishnakumar’s term on April 30, 2025.
Previously, Khanna served as Director (Refineries) and has overseen major projects at BPCL’s Kochi and Mumbai refineries.
Neeraj Kumar Gupta Appointed as Chairman and PID of NSE International Exchange
Former IAS officer Neeraj Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the Chairman and Public Interest Director of NSE International Exchange (NSE IX).
The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) approved his position on the NSE IX Governing Board, effective April 1, 2025.
Gupta retired in 2018 as Secretary of the Department of Investment & Public Asset Management, Ministry of Finance.
He also completed a tenure as Central Information Commissioner, concluding his service in 2023.
India Nominates M. Revathi for Leadership Role at ITU’s Radiocommunication Bureau
M. Revathi, currently Joint Wireless Advisor at the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has been nominated as India’s candidate for Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
If elected, Revathi would be the first woman and the first representative from ITU’s Region E (Asia/Australasia) and Region D (Africa) to assume this role.
This nomination reflects India’s growing prominence in global telecom governance, further emphasized by the successful hosting of WTSA in New Delhi in October 2024.

India’s GDP stands at $4.39 trillion, maintaining its spot behind Germany and ahead of Japan.
Despite a slight downward revision, India is projected to grow at a rate of 6.2% in 2025, keeping its title as the fastest-growing major economy.

This marks a notable jump from its 20.78% share in the previous fiscal year.
Tiruppur Knitwear Hub: Played a significant role with exports of ₹40,000 crore ($4.69 billion), bolstered by global buyers shifting away from Bangladesh as GSP benefits end in 2027.
Gujarat and Maharashtra secured 2nd and 3rd places respectively in textile exports.
