The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has successfully completed Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) of over 10,000 individuals across India under the GenomeIndia Project.
This dataset reflects the diverse genetic landscape of India’s population.
The government has officially granted Indian researchers access to this data via the Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC).
The dataset was formally dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9, 2025, during the Genomics Data Conclave.

State Bank of India Collaborates with Land Ports Authority of India to Expand Banking Services at 26 Land Ports
The State Bank of India (SBI) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI).
This agreement aims to improve and broaden banking facilities at 26 land ports situated along India’s borders with neighboring countries.
LPAI’s Operational Reach:
LPAI currently manages 15 land ports across 8 border states.
These ports are located at borders shared with Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Myanmar.
NPCI Rolls Out API Guidelines to Reduce UPI Transaction Outages
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued two important circulars to regulate application programming interfaces (APIs) in the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) ecosystem.
The goal of these guidelines is to minimize outages and ensure smoother operations for real-time payments.

RBI Acquires 57.5 Tonnes of Gold in FY25 – Second-Highest Annual Purchase in 7 Years
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has purchased 57.5 tonnes of gold in the fiscal year 2024-25.
This marks the second-largest gold acquisition by RBI since 2017.
Reasons for Increased Gold Reserves:

A 30% surge in gold prices.
RBI’s Gold Reserve Data:
Total gold reserves stood at 879.6 tonnes as of March 2025, rising from 822.1 tonnes a year earlier.
Largest recent purchase was in FY22 with 66 tonnes, followed by 35 tonnes in FY23 and 27 tonnes in FY24.

The rising gold purchases are attributed to dollar volatility, particularly after Donald Trump’s re-election in November 2024.
