National News
Union Cabinet Approves 2% Hike in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief.
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned a 2% increase in both DA and DR for central government employees and pensioners.
This increment will come into effect from January 1, 2025.
As a result, the rate rises from 53% to 55% of the basic pay or pension.
Over 1.15 crore individuals—including employees and retirees—stand to benefit from this revision.
National Cooperative University Initiative.
In line with the goals of the ‘Sahkar’ mission, the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Bill, 2023 incorporates the proposal to establish a National Cooperative University.
The institution will offer academic programs, diplomas, and certifications in cooperative management.
It aims to equip professionals with expertise in cooperative governance and financial administration.
CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Launches Techkriti 2025 at IIT Kanpur:
General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, inaugurated Techkriti 2025 at IIT Kanpur, recognized as Asia’s largest technology and entrepreneurial festival.
This year’s theme is “Panta Rhei”, meaning “Everything Flows”.
In his address, the CDS highlighted the ongoing modernization of the Indian Armed Forces, focusing on Cybersecurity, AI, Quantum Computing, and Cognitive Warfare.
He called upon young minds to play a role in enhancing national security through innovation.
The event included a Defence Expo titled ‘Rakshakriti’, showcasing advancements in AI-based warfare systems, autonomous drones, and indigenous military technologies.
The initiative also supports Atmanirbhar Bharat and seeks to boost collaboration between the Defence sector, academic institutions, and industry.

Core Sector Growth Falls to 2.9% in February 2025:
India’s core industrial sectors saw a slowdown in February 2025, with growth falling to 2.9%, the lowest in five months.
This is a sharp drop compared to 7.1% growth in February 2024.
The decline is largely attributed to high base effects and reduced performance in five of the eight core industries.
This reduced core sector performance is anticipated to affect the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), which had seen 5% growth in January 2025.
India’s Current Account Deficit Widens to $11.5 Billion in Q3 FY25
India’s CAD for the third quarter of FY25 (Oct–Dec 2024) expanded to $11.5 billion, which is 1.1% of GDP, according to the RBI.
The increase is mainly due to a larger merchandise trade deficit.
However, the CAD has reduced from $16.7 billion (1.8% of GDP) recorded in Q2 FY25.
Despite the deficit, India’s foreign exchange reserves have grown by $311 billion since December 2018, marking the highest rise under any RBI Governor.

Steve Waugh Joins Centre for Australia-India Relations Advisory Board.
Renowned former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Centre for Australia-India Relations.
This was announced by Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong.
The appointment acknowledges Waugh’s significant contributions in strengthening India-Australia relations, especially in sports, culture, and philanthropy.
Rajneet Kohli Appointed Executive Director at HUL.
Rajneet Kohli, the former CEO of Britannia Industries, has been named Executive Director of the Foods & Refreshment Division at Hindustan Unilever.
His appointment is effective from April 7, 2025.
He takes over from Shiva Krishnamurthy, who will be leaving the organization for a new opportunity.

India and Russia to Conduct 14th INDRA Naval Exercise:
The 14th edition of INDRA, a bilateral naval exercise between India and Russia, will take place from March 28 to April 2, 2025.
The drills will be held off the Chennai coast and in the Bay of Bengal.
Initiated in 2003, Exercise INDRA has continually enhanced interoperability and operational coordination between the two nations’ navies.

The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 has been published, revealing important global changes in billionaire rankings.
India ranks third globally, with 284 billionaires.
Notably, Shanghai has overtaken Mumbai as Asia’s top city in terms of billionaire population.

International Day of Zero Waste 2025.
Observed annually on March 30, this day was declared by the UN General Assembly on December 14, 2022.
The observance addresses the need to curb unsustainable consumption and production.

Celebrated actor Richard Chamberlain, known for his iconic role in ‘Dr. Kildare’ and his popularity in TV miniseries, passed away at the age of 90.
He died on March 30, 2024, in Waimanalo, Hawaii, due to stroke-related complications.
His death was confirmed by his publicist, Harlan Boll.
