Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate New Pamban Rail Bridge on April 6
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed Pamban rail bridge on April 6, 2025, which coincides with the Ram Navami festival.
The bridge, costing ₹531 crore, enhances connectivity between Ramanathapuram and Rameswaram Island.
Sourcex India 2025 Commences in New Delhi
The 3rd edition of Sourcex India 2025 was inaugurated at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi.
Organized by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) with support from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
Darjeeling Zoo Initiates Wildlife DNA Preservation Project
Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling has launched India’s first wildlife DNA preservation initiative from snowy regions.
In partnership with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad.
So far, 60 DNA samples have been collected from species like red pandas and snow leopards.
The DNA is stored using cryogenic technology in liquid nitrogen for long-term conservation.
A dedicated research facility is supporting genetic studies to aid biodiversity protection and species restoration.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Becomes Namibia’s First Female President
On March 21, 2025, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was sworn in as Namibia’s first female president, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of the nation’s independence.
A senior figure in the SWAPO party, she secured 58% of the vote in the November 2024 elections.
The power transition took place in a formal ceremony attended by various African leaders, as outgoing President Nangolo Mbumba stepped down.
She acknowledged Namibia’s development since 1990 and pledged to tackle unemployment by creating 500,000 jobs over the next five years in sectors like agriculture, fisheries, and creative industries.

Ministry of Defence Signs ₹6,900 Crore Contracts for Artillery and Vehicles
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) finalized contracts with Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
The deal includes the acquisition of 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) and High Mobility 6×6 Gun Towing Vehicles.
The total value of these contracts amounts to around ₹6,900 crore.
These agreements were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block, New Delhi.
With these deals, the capital procurement total for FY 2024–25 has reached ₹1.40 lakh crore.
The Defence Secretary also honoured the DRDO’s Project Director of ATAGS from the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, for his key role in the project.
Successful Test of Indigenous Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile
DRDO and the Indian Navy jointly conducted a successful flight test of the indigenously built Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM).
The test took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the Odisha coast.
The missile was launched from a land-based vertical launcher and targeted a high-speed aerial object at a low altitude and close range.
The trial demonstrated the missile’s Near-Boundary-Low Altitude engagement capability.

ATM Charges to Increase from May 1, 2025, Following RBI Approval
Starting May 1, 2025, ATM usage will become more expensive due to a fee revision approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The increase comes as a result of rising operational expenses faced by white-label ATM operators.
For customers exceeding their free monthly transaction limit:
An additional ₹2 will be charged per financial transaction.
An additional ₹1 will be charged per non-financial transaction.
New fee structure:
Cash withdrawals: ₹19 (up from ₹17).
Balance inquiries: ₹7 (up from ₹6).
This change may affect customers of smaller banks, although digital payments continue to grow rapidly—rising from ₹952 lakh crore in FY14 to ₹3,658 lakh crore.

B Sumeeth Reddy, India’s prominent doubles badminton player, has officially retired from competitive play.
He will now dedicate his efforts entirely to coaching.

Nitesh Wins Bronze at Asian Wrestling Championships 2025
Wrestler Nitesh earned a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman 97kg category at the Asian Wrestling Championships held in Amman, Jordan.
In his first match, he defeated Ilyas Guchigov of Kazakhstan 9-0 by technical superiority.

Centrico Insurance Repository Collaborates with LIC
Centrico Insurance Repository, a subsidiary of CDSL, has joined forces with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) to provide digital insurance repository services.
This collaboration aims to promote paperless insurance management.
Centrico already has partnerships with 43 insurers, including 23 life insurance companies.

Sunil Kakkar Appointed Whole-Time Director at Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki has named Sunil Kakkar as an Additional Director and Whole-Time Director (Corporate Planning).
His term runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028.
With over 35 years of experience at the company, Kakkar currently serves as Senior Executive Officer and is part of the executive committee.
Rajneet Kohli to Join Hindustan Unilever as Foods Head
Former CEO of Britannia, Rajneet Kohli, will assume the role of Executive Director, Foods, at Hindustan Unilever (HUL) on April 7, 2025.
He will take over from Shiva Krishnamurthy, who is moving on to pursue other opportunities.
Kohli will also join the management committee of HUL on the same date.
