  • Bangalore City University Renamed & Higher Education Reforms Announced
    • Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared that Bangalore City University would be renamed Manmohan Singh Bengaluru University in recognition of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
    • The Government Arts College and Government RC College will be merged as constituent colleges under the newly renamed university.
  • Karnataka Budget 2025: ₹70,000 Crore Infrastructure Overhaul for Bengaluru
    • CM Siddaramaiah presented a major budget plan focusing on Bengaluru’s infrastructure, with projects valued at over ₹70,000 crore aimed at improving road networks.
    • The annual budget grant for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike will be raised from ₹3,000 crore to ₹7,000 crore to help resolve infrastructure-related issues in the city.

International News

  • PM Modi to Visit Mauritius as Chief Guest for National Day Celebrations

    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to undertake a State Visit to Mauritius from March 11 to 12, 2025, following an invitation from Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
    • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that PM Modi will serve as the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day celebrations on March 12, 2025.
    • This will be PM Modi’s first visit to Mauritius since 2015.

  • Rajeev Shukla & Ashish Shelar Appointed to Key Positions in the Asian Cricket Council
    • Rajeev Shukla, the vice-president of the BCCI, has been selected as an Executive Board Member on the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Board.
    • His appointment follows the resignation of Jay Shah, who stepped down as ACC President after being elected unopposed as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman on December 1, 2024.
    • Ashish Shelar, the former BCCI treasurer, has been named as the BCCI representative on the ACC Board in the capacity of an Ex-Officio Board Member.

  • Indian Navy Successfully Completes TROPEX 2025 to Boost Maritime Security
    • The Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise 2025 has been successfully conducted by the Indian Navy to enhance India’s maritime defence strategies.
    • This biennial exercise involved joint operations by the Indian Navy, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard.
    • It was conducted from January to March 2025, covering key areas in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
  • Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Participates in PASSEX & Bilateral Drills with the Royal Thai Navy
    • The First Training Squadron  of the Indian Navy, including INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Veera, concluded a visit to Phuket Deep Sea Port, Thailand.
    • The visit was part of a broader training deployment of the 1TS in South East Asia.
    • The naval units arrived at Phuket Deep Sea Port on March 1, 2025, for bilateral exercises and PASSEX  with the Royal Thai Navy.

  • Coal India & IIT Hyderabad Join Hands for Clean Coal Energy Research

    • Coal India Limited and the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean coal energy research.
    • Their partnership aims to establish the Centre of Clean Coal Energy and Net Zero at IIT Hyderabad.
    • The initiative will focus on developing advanced clean coal technologies and ensuring the sustainable use of coal in alignment with India’s Net Zero commitments.
  • Glass-Ceiling Index 2025: Top 10 Best Countries for Women in the Workforce
    • In light of International Women’s Day, progress and challenges in workplace gender equality have been analyzed.
    • The Glass-Ceiling Index (GCI) by The Economist ranks the best countries for female workforce inclusivity.
    • Sweden has reclaimed the top position, overtaking Iceland as the most favorable country for working women.

  • CISF Raising Day 2025: March 10
    • CISF Raising Day is observed annually on March 10 to commemorate the establishment of the Central Industrial Security Force.
    • The CISF was formally established on March 10, 1969, under the CISF Act of the Parliament of India.
    • Initially, it had 2,800 personnel, primarily tasked with the protection and security of India’s industrial establishments.
