New Delhi World Book Fair 2025 to Be Held at Bharat Mandapam
- The New Delhi World Book Fair 2025 is scheduled from February 1 to 9, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
- The event will be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu, who will also serve as the chief guest.
- This year’s theme is “Republic@75”, reflecting on nation-building, governance, freedom, equality, and social justice.
India Adds 4 New Ramsar Wetland Sites, Strengthening Conservation Efforts
- India has added four new wetlands to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance:
- Sakkarakottai Bird Sanctuary (Tamil Nadu)
- Therthangal Bird Sanctuary (Tamil Nadu)
- Khecheopalri Wetland (Sikkim)
- Udhwa Lake (Jharkhand)
- With these additions, India’s total number of Ramsar sites has reached 89, making it the Asian country with the highest number of Ramsar sites, surpassing China.
Indian Railways Unveils ‘SwaRail’ SuperApp for Enhanced Travel Services
- The Ministry of Railways has introduced ‘SwaRail’, a SuperApp designed as a comprehensive platform for railway-related services.
- The app is currently in beta testing phase and is available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

- X (formerly known as Twitter) is working towards its vision of becoming an “everything app” by introducing a new digital payment service.
- In partnership with Visa, X is set to launch ‘X Money Accounts’ for peer-to-peer transactions in 2024.
- The payment system will be supported by Visa Direct, enabling real-time money transfers to users’ bank accounts.
- Elon Musk’s concept of an “everything app” traces back to his 1990s-era venture, X.com, which later evolved into PayPal.

- The Economic Survey 2025 presents an in-depth assessment of India’s economic progress over the past year and outlines key policy recommendations for the future.
- Traditionally, it is tabled in Parliament on January 31, 2025, just a day before the Union Budget.
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the Economic Survey in the Lok Sabha in 2025.
- The Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) to the Government of India plays a pivotal role in compiling the survey.
- V. Anantha Nageswaran has been serving as the CEA since January 2022 and continues to contribute by analyzing economic trends and advising on policy matters.

Sri Lanka Experiences Its Highest Deflation in 65 Years
- Sri Lanka recorded a 12-month deflation of 4.0% in December 2024, the largest decline in 65 years.
- Meanwhile, the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) increased by 0.5%, reaching 192.6 points, a level last observed in April 2023.
- The Sri Lankan Central Bank’s deflationary strategies—including pegging the exchange rate and absorbing capital inflows—successfully halted inflation, with inflationary pressure subsiding from September 2022 onward.
